What magic thing do you expect to connect to that just gives you access to the internet without equipment or a line? To VPN though something, you have to have some sort of network access.

Why on this earth would you need a VPN (Vitual Private Network) for a LOCAL network which is PRIVATE to begin with? The concept of a VPN is to establish a LOCAL network on a remote machine. VPN’s allow remote machines to be treated as local ones so adding a VPN to an Ad-Hoc that exists only locally is well, a waste of time and computer power! So just use the local network.. particularly when not one single sole who isn’t connected can possibly use it!
